About

Purpose (Why)

This business project is part of the Introduction to Operations Management course’s cirriculum.

Our group proposes to establish a small-scale website building service targeted primarily at local clients such as small businesses, organizations, and individual professionals. The service will deliver affordable, reliable, and fully managed websites by handling the entire lifecycle of website creation—from design prototyping to hosting and maintenance.

The process begins with the use of Figma to design interactive prototypes. These prototypes will allow clients to visualize the final product and provide feedback early in the process. This step ensures that expectations are aligned and minimizes the risk of costly redesigns later. Once the design is finalized, the website will be developed using WordPress, a widely trusted no-code platform that enables us to create functional and scalable websites efficiently. To maximize value for our clients, hosting will be provided through a local Virtual Private Server (VPS) provider. Compared to cloud hosting options such as AWS or Google Cloud, VPS hosting is significantly more affordable while still offering performance and reliability appropriate for our target market. After deployment, we will also provide ongoing maintenance and technical support, ensuring websites remain updated and functional over time. The value of this service lies in its cost-effectiveness, end-to-end coverage, and client-centered approach. By leveraging VPS hosting, we can reduce expenses without compromising on reliability. The inclusion of all steps—from prototyping to maintenance—means clients will have a one-stop solution for their online presence. Using Figma for prototyping enhances communication and reduces misalignment with client expectations, while our focus on serving local clients allows us to build trust-based relationships and stand out from larger, less personal service providers.

From an operations management perspective, this project will allow us to apply and practice key concepts in a real-world context. The project requires us to design processes that streamline the workflow from design to deployment, allocate resources effectively across design, development, and hosting, and maintain consistent quality to ensure client satisfaction. Moreover, we will emphasize continuous improvement by integrating client feedback into our workflow to refine and enhance service delivery.

By the end of the project, we aim to have delivered websites for at least two to three local clients. We also expect to have developed a repeatable operations model that can be applied to future website projects. Most importantly, the experience will allow us to strengthen our skills in project and operations management, particularly in client interaction, resource allocation, and performance evaluation.
